As we build Pierce for youth, safety, privacy, trust, and youth agency are central to our approach.
We're Building With Partners
We are working to bring together young people, parents and caregivers, educators, counselors, workforce organizations, researchers, and community partners to help us understand how AI can support youth responsibly. Their perspectives will help us:
Design with youth, not just for youth. Young people should have a meaningful voice in how Pierce is designed, tested, and improved.
Protect privacy. We aim to collect only the information needed to provide useful guidance and clearly explain how information is used.
Build age-appropriate experiences. Pierce should recognize that young people have different needs and require additional safeguards.
Keep humans in the loop. Pierce is not intended to replace parents, counselors, educators, mentors, or community organizations. It should help young people connect with them.
Make uncertainty visible. AI can make mistakes. Pierce should be transparent when information is uncertain and help young people verify important information.
Connect youth to trusted resources. We want to work directly with community organizations so Pierce can help young people discover real programs, services, mentors, and opportunities.
Learn and improve. We plan to evaluate how young people use Pierce, listen to feedback from youth and partners, and continuously strengthen its safeguards.
